What are some common problems encountered when using a floating fish feed extruder machine to produce floating pellets?

Common Problem 1: Poor pellet buoyancy, some or all of them sink to the bottom. Causes mainly include: extrusion temperature too low (insufficient starch gelatinization), insufficient pressure (few bubble formations), and raw material starch content too low (below 25%). Solutions: Increase the temperature of the automatic fish food making equipment to 130-140℃ and start production after the temperature stabilizes; increase the extrusion pressure to 3-5MPa by replacing the die with a smaller aperture (e.g., replacing a 4mm die with a 3mm die) or increasing the feed speed; add high-starch components such as corn or wheat to the raw materials to increase the starch content to 25%-40%. For example, when producing floating carp feed, insufficient starch content caused pellets to sink; adding 20% corn flour increased the buoyancy rate from 60% to over 95%.

Common Problem 2: Insufficient pellet hardness, easily disintegrating in water. Causes: Excessively high extrusion temperature (over-expansion), excessively high screw speed (short raw material residence time), and excessively high raw material moisture content (above 15%). Solutions: 1. Reduce the temperature of the floating fish feed pellet extruder machine by 5-10℃, controlling it at 120-130℃; reduce the screw speed to 300-350 r/min to increase the raw material residence time; dry the raw material moisture to 12%-15%. Additionally, the protein content in the raw material can be appropriately increased (e.g., by adding fishmeal or soybean meal) to improve pellet binding strength. For example, when a small fish feed extruder is making floating feed for crucian carp, excessively high temperatures cause pellets to become brittle. Reducing the temperature from 145℃ to 135℃ significantly improves pellet hardness, and water stability reaches over 8 hours.

Common Problem 3: Uneven pellet size and large differences in buoyancy. Causes: Uneven die head wear, large fluctuations in feeding speed, and uneven raw material particle size. Solutions: Replace the die head of the best fish feed pellet extruder machine to ensure uniform aperture; check the extruder's feeding system, tighten transmission components, and avoid inconsistent feeding; re-crush and screen the raw material to ensure uniform particle size (80-100 mesh). In addition, the pressure gauges need to be monitored in real time during production. If the pressure fluctuation exceeds ±0.5MPa, the feed rate needs to be adjusted promptly to ensure pressure stability. For twin-screw fish feed extruders, the meshing clearance between the two screws also needs to be checked. Excessive clearance can lead to uneven mixing of raw materials and affect the consistency of buoyancy.
