The transmission system of a single-screw pet food extrusion machine is relatively simple, mostly a single-stage gear reduction. The key to adding gear oil is controlling the oil level and preventing impurities from entering. Single-screw pet food extruders (such as fish feed extruders with a capacity of 50-200 catties/hour) have small gearboxes with an oil chamber capacity of 1-2L. Extra care must be taken when adding oil; the oil level must not exceed the "MAX" mark, otherwise it will cause the gearbox temperature to rise and oil leakage. Before adding oil, the filler port and dipstick must be thoroughly cleaned. The gearbox sealing of these machines is relatively poor, and impurities can easily enter and cause component wear. Medium-sized single-screw machines (capacity 200-500 catties/hour) have long continuous operating times. When adding oil, it is advisable to check the oil level after one hour of operation (when the gearbox temperature rises). At this time, the oil flow is enhanced, and the oil level detection is more accurate. It is recommended to record the amount of oil added and the operating time after each addition to facilitate the establishment of subsequent replacement cycles.
Twin-screw fish feed extruder machines have complex transmission systems, often employing multi-stage gear reduction and handling heavy loads. The key to adding gear oil is ensuring the oil quality meets standards and that the oil level is even. Large twin-screw machines (capacity exceeding 500 catties/hour) have gearboxes with multiple oil chambers. Each chamber must be checked and filled individually to ensure the oil level is within the standard range. These machines have extremely high requirements for the extreme pressure and anti-wear properties of the gear oil; high-viscosity extreme pressure gear oil of 320# or higher must be used. Before adding oil, the oil quality test report must be verified to avoid using substandard oil. Some twin-screw pet feed extruder machines are equipped with automatic oiling devices. Before adding oil, the oil pump and oil pipes must be checked for proper function. The oiling volume and interval should be set correctly to ensure accurate and controllable automatic oiling. The oil level should also be checked manually periodically to prevent insufficient lubrication due to automatic device malfunction.
Small cat food making machines (such as mini household models) require extra attention to tightening the screw plugs when adding gear oil due to frequent movement. After adding oil, tighten the filler and drain plugs firmly, and replace the gaskets if necessary to prevent oil leakage during movement. These types of equipment are often used outdoors, so the filler cap should be replaced after adding oil to prevent dust and rainwater from entering the gearbox. For large, fixed industrial extrusion granulators, adding oil can be done in conjunction with the equipment's maintenance platform. Pay particular attention to checking the gearbox's cooling system to ensure proper heat dissipation after adding gear oil and prevent oil deterioration due to high temperatures.
