The screw is the "heart" of the floating fish extruder machine, and its structural design and material selection directly affect the machine's performance. Structurally, the screw is divided into four functional areas: the feeding section, the compression section, the curing section, and the discharge section. The feeding section has a larger pitch, responsible for quickly conveying the raw material to the compression section; the compression section has a gradually decreasing pitch, where the raw material is gradually compressed, expelling air; the curing section has the smallest pitch, using strong extrusion and shearing forces to generate heat through friction, achieving starch gelatinization and protein denaturation; the discharge section has a slightly larger pitch, smoothly pushing the cured raw material to the die head. High-quality screws are made of 38CrMoAl wear-resistant alloy material, with a nitrided surface, achieving a hardness of HRC60 or higher, effectively resisting friction and wear from the raw material, and having a service life of 1-2 years.
The extrusion chamber is the screw's "working chamber," and its structure and materials must be adapted to the high-temperature and high-pressure working environment. The extrusion chamber is a cylindrical, closed structure. The length-to-diameter ratio (L/D ratio) is a key design parameter, typically between 10:1 and 20:1. A higher L/D ratio results in a longer residence time of the raw material within the chamber, leading to more thorough cooking. The inner wall of the extrusion chamber is smooth, and some fish feed processing machines feature a detachable design for easy internal cleaning and maintenance. Uniform chamber wall thickness ensures even heating and prevents localized overheating that could cause the raw material to scorch. In terms of materials, the extrusion chamber is made of high-temperature and corrosion-resistant alloy steel, capable of withstanding long-term wear and tear under high temperature and pressure.
The die head is the "forming mold" for fish feed pellets, and its structural design directly determines the shape, size, and density of the pellets. The core structure of the die head is the distribution and size of the pores. The pore size is selected based on the body size of the farmed fish: 1-2mm pores are suitable for juvenile fish, and 3-8mm pores are suitable for adult fish. Uniform pore distribution ensures consistent extrusion pressure and uniform pellet size. The die head is tightly connected to the end of the extrusion chamber of the fish extruder machine via bolts, and a sealing gasket is installed at the connection to prevent raw material leakage. Some high-end dies feature an adjustable structure, allowing for flexible control of pellet length by adjusting the distance between the die head and the cutter. In terms of material, the die head is made of a high-strength, wear-resistant alloy to prevent deformation of the orifice due to long-term extrusion wear, which would affect the forming effect. It typically needs to be inspected and replaced every 6-12 months.
The coordinated operation of these three core components constitutes the core operating mechanism of the floating fish feed pellet making machine: the screw rotates at high speed within the extrusion chamber, compressing the raw material and generating heat through friction, thus maturing the material under high temperature and pressure. The matured material is then extruded through the die orifice and finally cut into uniform pellets. Understanding the structural characteristics of these core components helps operators better operate and maintain the equipment, improving feed quality.
