Step 1: Raw Material Pre-treatment – This is fundamental to ensuring the quality of the finished product. First, screen raw materials such as corn, soybean meal, meat meal, and vegetable powder, removing impurities and spoiled particles. Use a small household grinder to grind the raw materials to 80-100 mesh to ensure proper cooking and shaping. Next, test the moisture content of the raw materials, controlling it between 12%-15%. If too high, dry at a low temperature; if too low, spray with warm water to adjust. If adding meat, it must be pre-cooked and ground to avoid bacterial contamination from raw meat and improve palatability.
Step 2: Precise Mixing – Pour the ground raw materials into a small household mixer according to the formula ratio and stir for 5-8 minutes, ensuring a mixing uniformity of over 95%.
Step 3: Extrusion and Cooking – Turn on the small floating fish feed machine and preheat for 10-15 minutes until the temperature stabilizes at 120-140℃. Feed the mixed raw materials evenly into the extruder inlet, adjusting the screw speed to 300-400 rpm to ensure thorough cooking within the extrusion chamber. The extruded raw material is porous and must be immediately cooled to room temperature on a cooling rack to prevent uneven moisture evaporation due to residual heat, which would affect subsequent pelleting. The extrusion process improves the digestibility of the raw material and kills harmful bacteria, making it crucial for improving the quality of homemade pet food.
Step 4: Pellet Forming. Turn on the Pet Food Making Machine for Home, pour the cooled, cooked raw material into the feed inlet, select the appropriate die according to the pet's size (2-3mm aperture for small pets, 4-6mm aperture for large pets), adjust the extrusion pressure, and start the machine to produce uniform pellets. After production, cool the pellets to room temperature again, sift to remove broken pieces, and store in sealed bags.
Step 5: Equipment Cleaning. After each use, disconnect the power and allow the machine to cool. Disassemble the Dog Food Extruder screw, die head, and pellet mill die. Clean any remaining raw material with warm water and a plastic scraper. After drying, reassemble and store to prevent mold growth from residual raw material. Following the steps above, it's simple and easy to make pet food at home using a pet food pellet machine and an extruder. Beginners can start with small-batch trial production and gradually optimize the parameters and formula.
